WINSTON
This is Winston, my face-tracking wireframe head. He was made for my professional context module, his context was to freak people out. The eyes will follow anyone who steps close enough using Arduino and a webcam. Sadly this project was cut short by covid related closure, so his eyebrows were unfinished and software bugs remain, but all in all, it's pretty cool if I do say so myself.
CONSTRUCTION
Winstons's head is made of 6mm steel rods, all hand bent and welded, this frame makes him surprisingly strong. And I know this because I have dropped him many a time...
INTERNALS
Two pairs of bell cranks control the left-right and up-down movement of his eyes. A third and fourth crank give individual eyebrow control for a lot of expression
BRAINS
The brain behind Winston is an Arduino Uno, which controls the four individual servos and runs the pre-programmed movements of his idle 'reading' state. Accompanying this is a python script, which communicates with the Arduino and alerts Winston to any face which has entered his vision. If for some reason you want to read the spaghetti which controls him, check out the link below.
